Command Master Chief Benjamin R. Stafford

Master Chief Stafford, a native of Richland, Washington, graduated from Richland High School and entered the U.S. Navy Sept. 15, 1993. Stafford is an honor graduate of Joint Special Operation Forces Senior Enlisted Academy and completed the Command Master Chief Course (Class 148). He holds a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College.  Stafford is a qualified

Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician, Naval Parachutist, and specialist in surface and aviation warfare.

After completing Hull Maintenance Technician “A” School, he was stationed aboard USS Simon Lake(AS 33), forward deployed to La Maddalena, Italy. While there, he screened for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and then completed EOD diver training at Naval Dive and Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Florida, and EOD technician training in Indian Head, Maryland.

His EOD operational assignments include service with EOD Mobile Unit 11, Whidbey Island, Washington, where he deployed aboard USS Constellation(CV 64) and USS John C. Stennis(CVN 74), spending time in Kandahar, Afghanistan. With EOD Mobile Units 12 and 2, he served as platoon leading chief petty officer (LCPO), deploying with SEAL Team 4; and training department LCPO, garrison senior enlisted and company LCPO, deploying with the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. Stafford was assigned with EOD Mobile Unit 6 as operations department LCPO.

For his shore tours, he deployed throughout the world while serving as LCPO of Foreign Material Acquisition and Scientific and Technical Intelligence Liaison Office at Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division, Indian Head, Maryland. He spent 18 months immersed in Arabic language and culture training at Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.

His served his first command master chief tour with EOD Mobile Unit 8, forward deployed to Rota, Spain. He reported as Command Master Chief, Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal in December 2018.

Stafford’s personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and Combat Action Ribbon.
