Cmdr. Brennan, a native of Chicago, graduated from St. Rita High School in 1993 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wabash College in 1997. He also earned a master’s degree in National Security Affairs (Far East) from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in 2008.

Brennan enlisted in the Navy in 1997 and was commissioned through Navy Officer Candidate School in 2001.

Brennan’s operational assignments include deployments with Commander, Amphibious Squadron 5 aboard USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3); Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17 aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70); and CVW-3 aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 68). Additionally, he deployed multiple times to Afghanistan as officer in charge of Defense Intelligence Agency’s Afghanistan Threat Finance Cell; served as an operations officer assigned to Kabul, Afghanistan; and deployed as an individual augmentee to Iraq assigned to Multi-National Forces-Iraq.

Ashore, he served at Naval Air Station Sigonella as a naval law enforcement officer; Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) as collection manager; Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Jacksonville as executive officer; Joint Activity Support Element Los Angeles as operations officer; and ONI Det. East as the det. chief.

Brennan reported as commanding officer, Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach in July 2020.

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards).
