Lieutenant Commander Leighann M. Lewis

Lt. Cmdr. Lewis is a native of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Chinese.  She attended flight school in Pensacola, Florida and was designated a naval aviator in April 2012.

Her first operational tour was at Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) Squadron 26, based in Norfolk, Virginia. She qualified as aircraft commander and earned tactical qualifications in anti-surface warfare and mine countermeasures. Lewis deployed to Bahrain in support of U.S. 5th Fleet logistics requirements and participated in the technical evaluation of the Airborne Laser Mine Detection System and Airborne Mine Neutralization System.

Lewis’s second operational tour was at Mine Countermeasures Division 31, a global mine countermeasures staff based out of San Diego, California, where she served as operations officer, future operations planner, and chief of staff.

Ashore, she served as the airborne mine countermeasures officer, MQ-8 Fire Scout officer, and Littoral Combat Ship officer at Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing Atlantic. She reported as executive officer, Mine Warfare Training Center in July 2020.

Lewis’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various personal, unit and service awards.
