Chief Aviation Maintenance Administrationman Pena, a native of Bell Gardens, California, graduated from Bell Gardens High School in 1999 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a non-designated airman. After completing boot camp at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended the Airman Apprenticeship Training program in Pensacola, Florida. Pena became an aviation maintenance administrationman in 2001, striking as a 3rd class petty officer.
 
Pena’s sea duty assignments included F-18 plane captain with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195, deploying with USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63); systems administrator (SA)/ maintenance data base administrator (MDBA), logs and records clerk with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron (HC) 11, deploying with USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) and USS Coronado (LCS 4); leading petty officer (LPO), logs and records, SA/MDBA, and maintenance admin, with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 117, deploying with USS Nimitz (CVN 68); and leading chief petty officer, logs and records, SA/MDBA, technical directives coordinator, maintenance control chief petty officer, phase coordinator and safe for flight with Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 3.
 
Ashore, Pena has served as Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Detachment Point Mugu support equipment (SE) logs and records clerk, maintenance admin clerk and SA/MDBA; and Fleet Readiness Center Southwest LPO for SE logs and records, main production control, SA/MDBA and 500 division.
 
Pena reported to the Navy Supply Corps School and joined the Joint Aviation Supply Maintenance Material Management (JASMMM) division in April 2019. He assumed senior enlisted advisor duties in December 2020.
 
Pena’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (eight awards) and various unit citations.
