Commander Troy R. Lawson

Cmdr. Troy Lawson, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, enlisted in the Navy in October 1988. He earned his commission through the limited duty officer program, laterally converting to an unrestricted explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) line officer in 2017. Lawson holds a Bachelor of Science in Emergency and Disaster Management from the American Military University.
 
Lawson’s enlisted assignments include USS Nitro (AE23); Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 6; EODMU 3 Detachment Middle Pacific; EODMU 8 Detachment Bahrain; and EODMU 4.
 
His commissioned officer sea tours include officer in charge (OIC) for EODMU 5 Detachment 9; readiness and training for officer EODMU 8; and operations and plans officer for Navy Expeditionary Combat Forces Command (NECFC) Bahrain and Commander Task Force 56, supporting U.S. Fifth Fleet.
 
His commissioned officer shore assignments include OIC for EOD Detachment Marianas; department head for Advanced Improvised Explosive Devices Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal (NAVSCOLEOD); training officer for NAVSCOLEOD; executive officer for NAVSCOLEOD; and executive officer for the Center for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Diving.
 
Lawson became the 20th commander of Naval Diving and Salvage Center (NDSTC) June 10, 2022.

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (seven awards - one with “V” for Valor), Navy Achievement Medal (five awards), Army Achievement Medal (two awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (three stars), Navy Expert Rifle Medal, Navy Expert Pistol Medal and various campaign and unit awards. He is a qualified Master EOD Technician, EOD Warfare Officer and Naval Parachutist.
