Officer In Charge

Lieutenant Commander Tsukatos is a native of Providence, Rhode Island. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1999, completing Recruit Training in Great Lakes, Illinois and Aviation Electricians Mate (AE) A-School at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida. While enlisted, he served a tour with Fighter Squadron (VF-101) at NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, Virginia. There he qualified as a plane captain on the F-14 Tomcat.

LCDR Tsukatos was commissioned in March 2002 through Officer Candidate School (OCS) where he began training as a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) at NAS Pensacola, Florida. He then was assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW-120) in NAS Norfolk, Virginia, where in earned his NFO wings of gold in March 2004 and qualified as an E-2 Hawkeye NFO in July 2004. He later reported to VAW-112 at NAS Point Mugu, California, for his first operational flight tour. There he qualified as a Combat Information Control Officer and supported combat operations for both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He also served as the squadron’s Ground Safety Officer, Line Division Officer and Tactics Officer. LCDR Tsukatos was a graduate of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron One course where he qualified as a Weapons Tactics Instructor.

Following this tour, LCDR Tsukatos attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California, in June 07. There he received his Masters in National Security Affairs with a specialization in Post Conflict Resolution and Stabilization. LCDR Tsukatos was next assigned to the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in November 08. Serving as both the Assistant Air Operations Officer and the Air Transfer Officer, he participated in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Unified Response.

In June 2011, LCDR Tsukatos reported to U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet, located in Naples, Italy. As the South and East Africa Regional Engagement Team Leader, he planned and executed multi-lateral exercises with U.S. partners to support theater security cooperation initiatives. He later reported to Tactical Control Squadron Eleven (VTC-11) for his department head tour on August 14, where he served as both the Operations Officer and Plans Officer. Attached to the USS Essex Amphibious Readiness Group, LCDR Tsukatos supported Operation Inherent Resolve, POTUS foreign visits and multiple bi-lateral exercises with coalition partners.

Lastly, he assumed duties as the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Detachment Point Mugu Officer-in-Charge in March 2017.

His decorations include three Air Medals, three Navy Commendation Medals, one Navy Achievement medal and various unit and service awards.
