PURPOSE:
To provide apprentice-level air traffic controllers (School graduates) fundamental carrier air traffic control knowledge.
SCOPE:
The course covers the organization, directives, rules, procedures, phraseology and equipment related to a Carrier Air Traffic Control Center (CATCC) and Carrier Air Operations. It includes coverage of: shipboard organization/interrelations; training/operational directives (such as CV Natops Manual, Ships CATCC Doctrine, operation orders and daily air plan); use/operation of CV/CATCC radars, the DAIR system, internal/external communications systems and informational display systems; the duties, responsibilities and skill requirements associated with different operational/controller positions in CATCC. The major portion of the course is spent in the CATCC controller and status board keeper watchstation/system operations functions under simulated operational conditions.
