PURPOSE:
The course mission for the Catapult Electrician course is to train E4 and above, Electrician's Mates and selected DOD personnel in the electrical maintenance of steam catapults and all associated auxiliary equipment and arresting gear electrical systems and their associated auxiliary equipment.
SCOPE:
The course is designed to teach the following information: (1) Safety - a review of electrical safety and an introduction to flight deck safety. (2) ALREMP - an introduction to the Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment Maintenance Program, including Maintenance Control and Support, Quality Assurance, and NAVAIR technical publications. (3) Arresting Gear - operation and maintenance procedures of the electrical components of the Mark 7 Arresting Gear. (4) Catapult major systems - operation and maintenance procedures of the steam catapult steam, hydraulics, launching engine, retraction/drive, lubrication, and control systems' electrical components. (5) Catapult ancillary systems - operation and maintenance procedures of the electrical/electronic components of the capacity selector valve, velocity indicator systems, jet blast deflector, bridle arrester, nose gear launch and deck tensioning systems, and the weight confirmation unit. (6) Catapult troubleshooting - an introduction to catapult schematics and troubleshooting procedures and practical experience in troubleshooting electrical malfunction and grounds.
PREREQUISITES:
OTHER=Civilian personnel with electrical backgrounds who are involved with the maintenance of catapult and arresting gear electrical systems. Enlisted personnel must have an ultimate duty assignment to a CV type ship. and
