PURPOSE:
The Aviation Boatswain's Mate Aircraft Handling (ABH) Course, Class A1 provides selected personnel, (E-1 through E-4) with the technical knowledge and skills to perform the duties of an apprentice aircraft handler, crash and salvage firefighter, operation of aircraft handling equipment, E-28 shore based arresting gear and carrier deck firefighter, under qualified supervision, at their ultimate duty station (sea or shore) under all conditions of readiness.
SCOPE:
The course is designed to train the student in FOD, 3M PMS System, PQS, tool control, safety wiring and torquing, hazardous materials in aircraft, sound powered phones, inspection and installation of aircraft handling equipment, skills and knowledge necessary for the inspection and operation of shipboard and shore based tow tractors, spotting dollies, mobile electric power plants, gas turbine compressors, firefighting vehicles, twinned agent units, aircraft towing, life preservers, aircraft elevators, helicopter operations, conflagration stations, non-skid and visual landing aids. The course also provides training in aircraft firefighting, tactics and clothing, extinguishers, forcible entry equipment, inspection of crash tool kits, crash related equipment, E-28 arresting gear, crash cranes, crash forklifts and crash dollies, hoisting operations, and live aircraft firefighting exercises.
