The Learning Resource Center offers students at the Naval School of Music high-tech assistance with their academic studies. They can use computer technology and the latest interactive ear-training and music theory software during self-study to reinforce and enrich instruction received in the classroom.

Instrument Issue

Instrument Issue stores and maintains inventory control of all musical instruments, accessories, and supplies for the school. Upon arrival at the school, each student is provided with a professional instrument and accessories, and all other needed supplies for intensive musical instruction. Currently there are over 2,500 instruments on inventory, and a wide variety of mouthpieces and equipment are on hand for outfitting personal tastes.

The Naval School of Music houses the largest and best equipped instrument repair shop in the military. The technicians assigned to the school provide each student with training on the proper care and maintenance of their instrument, and maintain the school's technical training equipment inventory.

In the Library Media Center, students at the Naval School of Music can find a quiet place to study, read, or just listen to a wide variety of music. The library contains thousands of recordings on vinyl, compact disc, and tape, and students are encouraged to spend time listening to the many styles of music available here.

Additionally, literally thousands of method books and instrumental solos are maintained in the library. This is a frequent stop for instructors and students alike. All required study materials are issued here, and additional reference books may also be checked out, as needed.

Military musicians are required to perform in a wide variety of musical styles and settings. During training at the Naval School of Music, students are exposed to as many different types of music as possible. Meeting this demand requires an extensive library of music. Stored in a moveable aisle shelving system, over 13,500 manuscripts are in the library's inventory.

Compositions range from orchestral transcriptions, to current wind ensemble composers. The library also contains over 2,300 marches, and numerous jazz charts from traditional big-band to contemporary styles.

Audio/Visual Facility

The Audio/Visual facility at the Naval School of Music is a central nervous system of electronics, with the ability to support everything from small meetings to large clinics.

A closed-circuit television station is maintained here with the capability of broadcasting six separate channels throughout the building. Additionally, the facility can view and record from any of the nine rehearsal areas for broadcast to monitors located throughout the building for trainers to observe rehearsals, concerts, or other presentations.

This facility also provides professional-quality audio and video support for all major training events and performances, as well as the repair and upkeep of the school's extensive electronic equipment inventory.
