Investigations pic

Purpose: This course provides the student with an understanding of Aircraft Mishap Investigation and the methods by which these incidents are promulgated to other operators of same and similar aircraft. This course assists the Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) in establishing a mishap prevention program in the squadron by discussing real world scenarios of aircraft mishaps. The core of the course is an instructional overview of the investigation process and follow-on "hands-on" series of mini investigations via laboratory for the purpose of preparing the student to perform his or her role as a program manager/squadron safety officer.
Given a defined Naval aircraft mishap or hazard, the student will be able to:
  1. determine the appropriate investigation
  2. initiate the appropriate action to safely collect, document and preserve all evidence, minimizing additional damage
  3. determine sources of technical assistance
  4. analyze the evidence in order to provide recommendations which will prevent its reoccurrence, as delineated in OPNAVINST 3750 and the Technical Manual Safety Investigation Volumes One and Two.
