To ensure a smooth check-in process and minimize pay or travel-related issues, all students attending the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer/Warrant Officer (LDO/CWO/WO) Academy must bring the following required paperwork and items:
Ensure you have your commissioned ID card and dependent ID cards updated before departing to keep DEERS information current. After commissioning, contact DEERS to confirm continuity of entitlements.
The uniform requirements for Limited Duty Officer (LDO), Chief Warrant Officer (CWO), and Warrant Officer (WO) students at Officer Training Command (OTC) Newport are designed to ensure professional appearance and readiness. Students are required to adhere to the seasonal uniform shifts announced by Navy Region Mid-Atlantic.
Seasonal uniform shifts take effect at 0001 on the last Monday of April for summer uniforms and at 0001 on the first Monday of October for winter uniforms. Students whose classes span both periods are required to bring both summer and winter uniforms. Physical training begins immediately upon arrival; students are expected to wear the Navy PTU 4-5 days a week. It is recommended to bring several sets of PTU.
The Navy considers physical fitness as important as mental readiness. Students attending the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer/Warrant Officer (LDO/CWO/WO) Academy are required to meet Navy Body Fat Standards upon arrival.
The goal of the Academy is to instill a “Culture of Fitness” that endures well beyond your training. Physical training classes are designed to maintain stamina, build endurance, and improve overall physical condition to ensure you meet the physical fitness requirements of military service.
For those interested, the swim qualification is optional and can be completed upon request.
Commercial off-base lodging is not authorized while attending the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer/Warrant Officer (LDO/CWO/WO) Academy. To accommodate students, NAVSTA Newport/NGIS has 50 rooms blocked for each class. It is essential that students secure their reservations no later than two weeks prior to arrival.
If you are unable to secure a reservation at NAVSTA Newport/NGIS, you will be directed to contact the Officer Training Command Newport (OTCN) staff. Arrangements will be made for on-campus lodging, which is located in a barracks adjacent to the schoolhouse.
