Captain Dean A. Muriano

Capt. Muriano, a native of Boonton, New Jersey, earned his commission through the U.S. Naval Academy, graduating in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies with an additional qualification designation in counter-insurgency/terrorism from the U.S. Naval War College. After serving three tours in surface warfare, Muriano laterally transferred and qualified as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officer.

Muriano’s operational tours include communications officer, USS Cayuga (LST 1186); operations officer, USS Osprey (MHC 51); officer in charge, EOD Mobile Unit 2 Detachment 10; EOD, mine countermeasures, and anti-terrorism force protection officer, Cruiser Destroyer Group 8/ Theodore Roosevelt Strike Group; executive officer, EOD Mobile Unit 11; commanding officer, EOD Mobile Unit 6; deputy commander, Combined Joint Task Force Paladin; commodore, EOD Group 1 and Task Force 35; and commanding officer, Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal and deputy manager for joint EOD training.

His staff tours include Surface Warfare Officers School as an instructor; U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. 5th Fleet as deputy director of future plans (N5); the office of U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker as defense legislative fellow; EOD Group 2 as chief staff officer; and Navy Expeditionary Combat Command as the director of maritime operations.

He reported as commanding officer, Center for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Diving, Sept. 22, 2021.

He has earned designation as an EOD officer, a surface warfare officer, a diving and salvage officer, a master explosive ordnance disposal technician, and as a joint qualified officer. His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (two awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one silver star in lieu of five subsequent awards, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), the Army Achievement Medal, the Sea Service deployment ribbon (seven awards), and various service and campaign awards.
