Robert J. Seneca Jr.

Robert “Bob” Seneca enlisted in the Navy in 1978. After completing Machinist Mate “A” School he reported to the “Navy’s Best Homeport,” Pearl Harbor at Navy Region Hawaii to serve aboard USS Sample (FF 1048). One of the last homesteaders, fulfilling the Navy’s needs, he continued assignments in Hawaii, serving aboard USS Jason (AR 8) as repair logistics coordinator; Ships Intermediate Maintenance Activity as facilities manager; and USS Harold E. Holt (FF 1074) where, in 1989, he was selected for chief petty officer, served as auxiliary and repair divisions leading chief, and completed his eighth western pacific deployment including participation in Operations Desert Storm / Desert Shield. 

Continuing his Hawaiian assignments, he transferred to Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific to serve as an assessor for assessment of equipment program and performance monitoring team and as a plankowner of Fleet Technical Support Center Pacific Detachment Pearl Harbor. He was hand-picked to serve as a member of Commander, Naval Surface Force Propulsion Examining Board, Mobile Training Team to augment the senior surface force engineers assessing the U.S. Pacific Fleet. In 1995, he reported to Commander, Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific (ATGMP) as an underway engineering assessor and training safety officer for high-risk training where he guided the establishment of anti-terrorism / force protection training which grew into part of the current Center for Security Forces. 

Upon his retirement in 2002, he received immediate call back to service to assume duties as the N7 department head, curriculum and instructional standards officer at ATGMP and commenced his civil service career. The implementation of the “Revolution in Training” initiative in 2004 established Training Support Department (TSD) Hawaii. Seneca initially served as the learning standards officer, N7 training resources manager and currently as the executive director. 

Seneca’s military distinctions include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), National Defense Medal and Sea Service Deployment (eight awards).
