Commander Tammy L. Shipman

Cmdr. Tammy Shipman, a Phoenix, Arizona native, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March 1993.  She graduated from Aviation Machinists Mate “A” School in Millington, Tennessee.  Shipman earned a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle University in 1999 and a Master of Science in Aeronautical Science in 2000.  She was commissioned through Aviation Officer Candidate School in March 2003.
 
Her previous enlisted assignments include:  Patrol Squadron Four (VP) 4, Naval Air Station (NAS) Barbers Point, Hawaii, where she deployed to Japan and Diego Garcia; Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD), NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii; and Marine Aviation Support Element Kaneohe (MALSEK), Kaneohe, Hawaii, where she was selected as Sailor of the Year.  Shipman was selected for commissioning while at Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129, NAS Whidbey Island, Washington.
 
She has served in myriad sea duty assignments, including Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 121, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 112, and most recently USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the AIMD maintenance officer homeported in Sasebo, Japan.  Shipman also made five western pacific forward-deployed naval force deployments in the U.S. 7th Fleet supporting Cobra Gold and Talisman Sabre.

Her staff and shore commands include a tour as the maintenance material control officer at Helicopter Squadron Light (HSL) 44, deputy department head at Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Command, and principal deputy assistant program manager for logistics at Naval Air Systems Command Logistics & Industrial Operations (PMA 231).
 
Shipman’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and numerous unit, service, and campaign awards.
