Senior Chief Joseph H. Benavidez

Senior Chief Benavidez, a native of Globe, Arizona, graduated from Liberty High School.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 2000 and attended Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by fireman apprentice training.

His sea duty assignments include undesignated fireman, USS Essex (LHD 2); lead sonar technician, USS Patriot (MCM 7); deck and weapons leading petty officer, MCM Crew Exultant aboard USS Scout (MCM 8), USS Warrior (MCM 10), USS Dextrous (MCM 13), and USS Chief (MCM 14); weapons leading chief petty officer (LCPO), MCM Crew Constant aboard USS Sentry (MCM 3); and operations department LCPO, Scout.

His shore assignments include tours as an instructor for Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego and Afloat Training Group San Diego. In September 2020, he reported as the senior enlisted leader for Mine Warfare Training Center (MWTC) in San Diego. 

Benavidez’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (11 awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.  He was selected as the TSC San Diego Instructor of the Year in 2010.  He is qualified as a master training specialist.
