Master Chief Fire Controlman Michael W. Royster

Master Chief Fire Controlman Royster is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He joined the U.S. Navy in November 1998. After graduating recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, Royster attended Advanced Electronic Technical Core and Fire Controlman (FC) “A” School at Service School Command, Great Lakes, Illinois from January 1999 until October 1999. He holds an associate degree in Computer Technology and in Vocational Technical Education. He currently attends Saint Leo University pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.  He graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy (Blue 190) in 2015.
 
Royster’s sea duty assignments included USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the advanced combat direction system group supervisor; USS Kearsarge (LHD 3); USS Ponce (LPD 5) as 3MC, then CF and CE division leading chief petty officer (LCPO) and then back to the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) as the combat system senior enlisted, anti-terrorism training supervisor and systems test officer.
 
Ashore, Royster has served at Center for Surface Combat Systems Dam Neck as leading petty officer teaching the ACDS Computer Peripheral Course and earning his master training specialist qualification.  At Center for Security Forces Detachment Chesapeake, he was the course manager for the Security Reaction Force Advanced, small arms marksmanship instructor and the anti-terrorism training supervisor courses of instruction; during his time there, he was named as the 2012 Senior Instructor of the Year.  At Afloat Training Group in Norfolk, Virginia, he was 3M team lead and promoted to master chief petty officer, and he served at Training Support Center Great Lakes as the blue fleet master chief, operations LCPO.
 
Royster reported to his current assignment in April 2021 as command master chief, Training Support Center in Great Lakes, Illinois.
 
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Battle Efficiency Award (five awards), and various other personal and unit awards.
