Lieutenant Colonel William Slack
Commanding Officer, Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit New River
Lieutenant Colonel Slack started his career in recruit training in San Diego, CA. Upon graduation in April 1995, he continued to serve as an infantryman in India Co. 3rd Battalion 23rd Marines. He attended Officer Candidates School in 1997 and 1998 under the Platoon Leaders Class program. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in May 1999. He attended the Aviation Supply Officer Basic Qualification Course in Athens, GA in May 2000. Second Lieutenant Slack reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS)-36 in Okinawa, Japan where he served in several key divisions within the Aviation Supply Department. He was promoted to First Lieutenant in May 2001.
During August 2002 First Lieutenant Slack was transferred to MALS-24 in Kaneohe Bay, HI where he served as the Aviation Supply Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in Nov 2003 he was subsequently selected for the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterrey, CA in 2005. After completion of NPS he earned a Masters of Business Administration with a focus in Material Logistics Management.
Captain Slack reported to Marine Corps Logistics Command in Albany, GA in January 2007 and served as the Project Officer for the Master Scheduling Support Tool for the Depot Level Maintenance Center. Captain Slack deployed in support of Operation: Iraqi Freedom from August 2007 to February 2008 where he served as the Forward in Stores Officer in Charge at Camp Al Taqaddum. Upon his return from deployment, Captain Slack served as a Branch Head for the Master Work Schedule for Motor Transport and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected family of vehicles. He was promoted to the rank of Major November 2009.
Major Slack transferred to MALS-12 in Iwakuni, Japan and served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer from June 2010 to June 2012. He was next assigned to Naval Supply Systems Command in Mechanicsburg, PA where he assumed the duties as the Marine Liaison and Fleet Engagement Team lead until June 2016. After this position, Major Slack transferred to 2D Marine Aircraft Wing, in Cherry Point, NC as the Wing Aviation Supply Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in September 2016. Lieutenant Colonel Slack later deployed as the Aviation Logistics Division Officer for the Command Element of the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Africa, from January 2017 to November 2017.
Lieutenant Colonel Slack earned a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Business Administration from the University of Central Arkansas, Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA; He is also a graduate of the University of North Carolina's Kennan Flaggler’s Business School and the Institute for Defense and Business Logistics in Technology program; he is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School and the Command and Staff College.
Lieutenant Colonel Slack’s personal decorations include, two Meritorious Service Medals, a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, an Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal along with various unit, and service awards.
