WT for the CPO Mess
All students attending classes in the Headquarters, building 1997, are to check in at the Quarterdeck with the Petty Officer of the Watch or the Command Duty Officer for classroom identification and directions. Building 1997 is the second building on the left side of the street coming from the Main Gate. It is directly across the street from the Chief Petty Officer's Club.
Students attending classes at the Fire School, Building 4834, should report directly to the Fire School. The same applies to students attending classes at the Force Protection Compound, building 4818. Both of these facilities are located in the "J" area on the North end of the base, near the Auto Port and Navy Lodge.
Students must be in the proper uniform listed in CANTRAC and have orders for classes at TSD WESTPAC. See "Student Information" for more details. There are no clothes changing or locker facilities for students at TSD WESTPAC. Parking is very limited.
Feedback from our customers is highly desired. Please let us know how we can better serve you.
Medical Pre-screening Is Required For High Risk Courses
The Commander of Naval Education and Training Command has identified certain courses that offer potential danger to students and instructors, due to the course environment, as "HIGH RISK."
Students attending HIGH RISK courses must be medically qualified by their parent commands' Medical Departments prior to reporting for training. The HIGH RISK course screening forms must be completed as a prerequisite for attending courses that require these forms, and students will not be enrolled without them. Access the High Risk Medical Pre-screening Form on eNTRS.
Class Start Times
Class start times for courses convening in TSD WESTPAC in the Yokosuka facilities are as follows:
Fire Fighting classes convene Monday through Thursday in Building 4834, SWOS LSY Fire School at 6:00 am.
Damage Control and Engineering classes conducted in Building 4834 convene Monday through Friday at 7:00 am.
Unless otherwise stated, all other classes at TSD WESTPAC convene at 7:30 am.
History has shown that Learning Sites are reluctant to convene classes after the scheduled start times in order to end each Training Day in accordance with the Course Master Schedules. It is imperative that commands ensure students arrive on time for scheduled classes to prevent possibilities of Missed Training Opportunities.
If you have questions concerning the start times of courses, contact the TSD WESTPAC Fleet Liaison Office at (DSN) (315)243-6127 for information.
Uniform Requirements
All personnel reporting for classes at TSD WESTPAC for Fire School courses are to be in clean Navy Working Uniform (NWU) within uniform standards. Students are recommended to carry fire-resistant coveralls or a flight suit for the lab portion of the course. Steel-toed, all leather safety shoes/boots are recommended. Flight suits and coverall uniforms are not authorized, except when actually conducting high-risk training.
Students reporting for training at TSD WESTPAC Force Protection Compound are to be in NWU within uniform standards. Instructors will provide any additional uniform requirements for lab sessions to students prior to the end of the first day. Students are recommended to bring camelbacks/canteens for lab evolutions. The Learning Site will provide additional safety equipment as required. Flight suits and coverall uniforms are not authorized, except when actually involved in lab sessions.
All other students must report for training at TSD WESTPAC in one of the following uniforms: (1) the "prescribed" uniform of the day promulgated by the Area Commander (COMNAVFORJAPAN), (2) the Service Uniform, and (3) for classes with dirty labs, NWU is authorized. Marine students are to wear the Alfa, Bravo, or Charlie uniform, based on seasonal requirements. Coverall uniforms are not authorized for classes that do not involve dirty labs in which uniforms could be soiled. All students are to meet the standards set forth in CNFJ Instruction 1020.2(Series), Uniform Policy and Regulations for the NAVFORJAPAN Area. Instructors may make uniform adjustments based upon course content.
Students Must Meet Prerequisites
The purpose of prerequisites for courses is to ensure each student has the requisite skill, knowledge, and/or experience necessary to successfully complete the courses. Years of experience have shown that students without prerequisite knowledge, skill or experience have less than a 50% chance of completing the course, versus 95% success rate for those who do meet the same prerequisites. Under normal circumstances, students not meeting course prerequisites will not be enrolled in class. Ships' Training Officers are responsible for ensuring ALL students sent to a particular class fully meet the course prerequisites.
Orders Are Required
Regardless of the training facility, building, classroom, or course, orders are mandatory for all students attending classes at TSD WESTPAC. The policy for orders applies to all students, whether reporting for assigned quotas or as standby students. Memorandum orders are acceptable if students are from the local area and the ship does not depart before class completion. Some classes require specific information to be placed on students' orders such as color vision and security clearance data. Check the course descriptions in CANTRAC to determine applicability of the additional data requirement.
