CHAPLAIN'S CORNER

Welcome to the Chaplain’s Corner of Officer Training Command Newport

Navy chaplains support freedom of religious expression for all Sailors and their families as assured in the first clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. All Navy chaplains, regardless of their own religious background, accomplish this purpose in four ways:

Providing religious ministry through divine worship, religious education, and other religious rituals and rites for those of like faith to the chaplain. There is a Navy Chapel in the middle of training country offering multiple services on Sundays and through the week (see below).

Facilitating for the religious needs of all people from any religious tradition by identifying their religious needs and coordinating support. Students arriving in training country are encouraged to bring personal religious materials and find a congregation in the Newport area that supports their faith tradition. If the chapel services do not support your faith tradition the command may support your attendance at a congregation in the local area.

Caring for all people with dignity, respect, and compassion. Chaplains care about your issue because it matters to you and you matter. When speaking with a chaplain you retain privilege over everything you share. This counseling is offered to all service members and families without regard to an individual's belief system.

Advising commanding officers on the accommodation of religious needs; on the moral, ethical, and spiritual wellbeing of the command; and on religious matters that affect the mission of the command. Religious accommodations that require uniform, grooming, medical, or dietary waivers will be considered on an individual basis and may require approval prior to reporting.

If you need to speak with a chaplain, please do not hesitate to reach out. If there is an emergency concerning your loved one at Officer Training Command Newport, please call the Command Duty Officer (CDO). If there has been a death in the family and you need to contact your loved one, please get in touch with your local American Red Cross (AMCROSS) chapter.
