Surface Warfare Schools Command (SWSC) has learning sites in 12 geographically dispersed locations in the continental U.S., Hawaii and Japan, as well as fleet support for forward deployed forces in Spain and Bahrain.

The center prepares Navy officer, enlisted, civilian personnel, and international personnel to serve in a wide variety of challenging billets at sea.

Its largest learning site, Surface Warfare Engineering School Great Lakes, offers the Navy’s only apprentice training track for accession surface engineers and provides accession surface navigation training for quartermaster personnel. At the learning sites in the fleet concentration areas, SWSC provides the fleet with engineering, damage control, firefighting, and navigation training. In Newport and at the Basic Division Officer Courses in San Diego and Norfolk, SWSC continues to instruct officers in leadership, management, navigation, seamanship, shiphandling, engineering, and maritime warfighting to develop the necessary skillsets to succeed across a lifetime of training.
