John R. Jones

Mr. John Jones, a native of the United Kingdom, immigrated to the United States in 1977, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and later became a U.S. citizen in 1986. Commissioned as a limited duty officer (LDO) in 1988, he concluded his active-duty career at the rank of captain after 37 years of service. Jones holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in Business Management.

Ashore, Jones served enlisted tours at Recruit Training Command Orlando and Naval Military Personnel Command, Washington, D.C. As an LDO, he served as administrative and personnel officer at U.S. Naval Forces Europe in London, where he won the Navy Europe Officer Inspirational Leadership Award; detailer for three officer communities and then assistant community manager for 6,000 LDOs and chief warrant officers (CWO) at Bureau of Naval Personnel; concurrent officer in charge of Personnel Support Detachments Little Creek, Portsmouth and Yorktown, Virginia; headquarters commandant for U.S. Joint Forces Command, extensively involved with the post-9/11 establishment of the Homeland Security Command; branch head at Navy Personnel Command for the surface LDO detailers and for executive services, assigning personal staffs to all admirals and senior government executives, including the president; final commanding officer for the Joint Maritime Facility, the last U.S. Navy-U.K. command (U.S. Navy, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy), a major shore command dedicated to Integrated Undersea Surveillance Systems; community manager for the LDO/CWO community, guiding a first-ever extensive top-down review; and chief of staff for Naval Education and Training Command.

His at-sea assignments included enlisted tours with Patrol Squadron (VP) 30, USS Holland (AS 32) and USS Hunley (AS 31); personnel officer and ship's secretary, qualifying as a surface warfare officer, aboard USS New Jersey (BB 62) for her last deployment through decommissioning; and administrative officer, while also serving as command duty officer (underway), aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), deploying in support of Operations Allied Force and Noble Anvil in Kosovo followed by Operation Southern Watch over Iraq.

Following retirement from active duty, Jones entered federal civil service in 2016 as the executive director for the Center for Information Warfare Training. In July 2017, he assumed his current assignment as executive director, Naval Education and Training Command.
