Mr. Corey Melton

Mr. Corey Melton graduated in 1988 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a bachelor's degree in Oceanography. He graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a Master of Science in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College with a Master of Arts in Foreign Affairs.

At sea, he served as communications officer, CMS custodian, and navigator aboard USS Elmer Montgomery (FF 1082); officer in charge of the military detachment aboard USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO 188); operations officer aboard USS Ingersoll (DD 990); operations officer at Destroyer Squadron (COMDESRON) 28; exercise coordinator at COMDESRON 2; and executive officer aboard USS Klakring (FFG 42).

His shore assignments included surface warfare lead instructor, DD TET lead instructor, and shipboard readiness and readiness lead instructor at Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS); Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Mission Capabilities Package lead on the Chief of Naval Operations Staff (N70 and N81); and lead ASW instructor at SWOS.

Melton honorably retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander in 2008.
 
After retirement, he served as the director of training requirements and management at SWOS from 2009 to 2023. He also worked for Northrop Grumman as a lead warfighting analyst.

Melton assumed the position of executive director of Surface Warfare Schools Command in December 2023.
