Chief David L. Cobbel

Chief Equipment Operator David Cobbel is a native of Wood River, Illinois and attended Western Illinois University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.
 
After graduation, he taught for Canton Union School District in Canton, Illinois, and joined the U.S. Navy in July 1998. He attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois, and Musician "A" School in Little Creek, Virginia.
 
Cobbel’s initial assignments include U.S 7th Fleet Band, Yokosuka, Japan, and then Navy Band Great Lakes, Great Lakes, Illinois.
 
After a rate change and attending Equipment Operator “A” School, his expeditionary assignments included Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4; Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes; and Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering (CSFE) Learning Site China Lake.
 
He is currently assigned as the
NCTC Port Hueneme Learning Site China Lake officer in charge and Water Well Drilling Technician School director.
 
Cobbel is Seabee combat warfare and surface warfare qualified. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Battle "E" Ribbon (two awards), Navy Good Conduct Medal (six awards), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (two campaign stars), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (nine awards), Overseas Service Ribbon (five awards), Recruit Training Command Ribbon, NATO ISAF Medal (two awards), Navy Expert Rifle Medal, and Navy Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon.
