James E. Hagy

James Hagy began civilian service as the executive director for the Center for Information Warfare Training in March 2018, after a 40-year active-duty Navy career, retiring as a captain.

Enlisting in 1974, Hagy’s Navy career began at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Class “A” School Pensacola, Florida, and assignments to Naval Security Group Activities in Japan, Guam, Spain and Virginia. He promoted to chief petty officer in 1986 while underway aboard USS Iowa (BB 61).

He received his commission as a limited duty officer in 1987 and subsequently served with: Naval Security Group Activity Galeta Island, Republic of Panama, as assistant operations officer and special security officer; USS Arthur W. Radford (DD 968) as electronic warfare officer, qualifying as a surface warfare officer; Personnel Exchange Program with the Royal Australian Navy aboard HMAS Albatross, New South Wales, Australia, in the electronic warfare support section; division officer of Cryptologic Technician Class “A” and “C” Schools onboard Naval Technical Training Center Pensacola, Florida; Amphibious Group 2 staff, Norfolk, Virginia, as amphibious task force cryptologic resource coordinator; officer in charge and mission director of U.S. Naval Detachment, Combined Support Group, Alice Springs, Australia; U.S. Fleet Forces Command Norfolk, Virginia as deputy director of fleet cryptology, and assistant deputy director of information warfare; deputy director of Naval Security Group Atlantic; Navy Personnel Command as cryptologic warfare officer senior detailer and community manager; commanding officer, Navy Information Operations Command Hawaii; U.S. Pacific Fleet as director, JTF-519 cyberspace operations and deputy director, intelligence and information warfare; and U.S. Pacific Command Joint Intelligence Operations Command.

Hagy holds a Master of Arts in Leadership and Management and Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Liberty University.
