Captain Christopher J. Hanneke

Captain Christopher J. Hanneke, a native of Jackson, Mississippi, was commissioned in 2014 through a four-year Reserve Officers’ Training Corps scholarship to the University of Mississippi. Upon completion of his junior year, he reported to Officer Candidate’s School (OCS) during the summer of 2017. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Homeland Security from the University of Mississippi. In the summer of 2018, he reported to The Basic School where he was eventually designated as an aviation maintenance officer.

In January 2019, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 13 in Yuma, Arizona. In May 2019, he earned the military occupational specialty of 6002 after completion of Aviation Maintenance Officer School. He then returned to MALS-13 where he served as the division officer for ground support equipment. He was chosen to be the F-35B Class Desk for Marine Aircraft Group (MAG) 13. While still serving in this capacity, he also became the assistant aircraft maintenance officer for MALS-13 in November 2020.

In February 2021, Hanneke was hand-selected to serve as part of the “core cadre” and the stand-up of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 225 as the assistant aircraft maintenance officer. After a successful safe for flight operational certification in September 2021, he led the maintenance department in several detachments and exercises including the fleet’s first Lightning Carrier proof-of-concept on landing helicopter assault, USS Tripoli (LHA 7).

In June 2022, he detached from VMFA-225, and reported to Camp Pendleton, California, to take command of Headquarters Company for Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Edson Range. He served in this capacity and simultaneously as the battalion’s inaugural camp commandant for the next two years.

Following this, he reported to Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment (CNATT Det.), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where he served as the training officer and senior marine officer.

He currently serves as CNATT Det. Eglin’s assistant officer in charge, as of March 2026.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
