Cmdr. David L. Badman, a native of Moravia, New York, entered the U.S. Navy in March 1994 and reported for basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College and Master of Science in Leadership from Trident University International. He was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer in February 2006.

His sea assignments include Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron (VQ) 4, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma; VQ-1, Naval Air Station (NAS) Whidbey Island, Washington, where he completed a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; AIMD IM-4 division officer aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67), Naval Station Mayport, Florida; AIMD Maintenance/material control officer (MMCO) and assistant maintenance officer (AMO) onboard USS Essex (LHD-2), Commander Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan where he completed three Western Pacific deployments; MMCO, quality assurance officer (QAO) and AMO with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195, Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan where he completed three Western Pacific deployments aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73); MMCO and QAO with VFA-11, NAS Oceana, Virginia, deploying aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve; and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 maintenance officer (CAGMO), NAF Atsugi, Japan, where he completed two Western Pacific deployments aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).

His shore assignments include Aviation Electrician’s Mate instructor with Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) Detachment Tinker, Tinker AFB; MMCO and AMO with VFA-106, NAS Oceana, East Coast Fleet Replacement squadron; Maintenance officer for Commander Electronic Attack Wing Pacific, NAS Whidbey Island; as executive officer at Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Jacksonville, Florida.

He became commanding officer of CNATTU Jacksonville, Florida, in May 2024.

His awards include Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit and campaign awards. He is a qualified Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer. He was selected as 1999 Communications Wing One Maintainer of the Year, 2003 CNATT DET Tinker Sailor of the Year, 2016 Commander, Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic Maintenance Officer of the Year and Commander, Naval Air Forces 2022 Captain Virgil Lemmon award recipient.
