Commander Issac Medina

CDR Medina is a native of Bronx, New York. He enlisted in 1995 as an Aviation Electronics Technician and was commissioned in 2010 as a Limited Duty Officer, later earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Excelsior College in 2014.

His enlisted assignments included tours with Fleet Composite Squadron (VC) 8, Sea Control Squadron (VS) 29, Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Detachment (AIMD), Jacksonville, FL, USS KITTY HAWK (CVN-63), USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) and Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), Pensacola Florida.

CDR Medina’s fleet operational assignments include tours as Assistant Maintenance Officer, Quality Assurance Officer and Maintenance Material Control Officer with the “Checkmates” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 211; and as Assistant Maintenance Officer and Maintenance Material Control Officer with the “Dambusters” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195. During these tours, he made six deployments in support of multiple campaigns including Desert Fox, Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom, New Dawn and 13 forward deployed naval forces patrols. His pinnacle operational tour was with “Team Badman” of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as the Carrier Air Wing Maintenance Officer (CAGMO). He deployed to the Western Pacific and Arabian Sea aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in 2021, 2022, and 2023, supporting INDOPACOM strategic operations and Operation FINAL COUNTDOWN.

Ashore, CDR Medina’s assignments include serving as Support Equipment Officer, Avionics and Armament Division Officer, and Maintenance Material Control Officer at Fleet Readiness Center Southeast (FRCSE) Detachment Mayport; Branch Head of Enlisted Aviation Detailing at Navy Personnel Command (NPC) in Millington, Tennessee; Assistant Maintenance Officer and Maintenance Officer at Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Atlantic, Mayport, Florida; and as Maintenance Officer at Patrol Squadron (VP) 30.

CDR Medina reported as Executive Officer at Center for Naval Aviation Training Technical Unit Jacksonville in September 2025. Throughout his distinguished career, CDR Medina has earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designations, as well as the Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer (PAMO) qualification. His personal awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, five Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, seven Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, four Good Conduct Medals, and various unit, campaign, and service awards

Lapse in Appropriations: The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EDT on Sept. 30, 2025.
Military personnel will continue in normal duty status, without pay, until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in excepted will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
