Captain Michael P. Mulhern

Captain Michael P. Mulhern, is a native of Brandon, Florida.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1989, and then he attended Basic Training at RTC Great Lakes, Illinois.  After basic training, he completed training for Firecontrolman ‘A’ School and MK86 Gun Fire Control System ‘C’ School.  He graduated from Chapman University in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He graduated from Strayer University with a Master of Business Administration.  He was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School in 2000.

Mulhern’s enlisted assignments include the USS Antietam (CG 54) where he served as a MK86 GFCS technician, Fleet Training Center San Diego, California, where he instructed the MK 86 GFCS; he served aboard the USS Elliot (DD-967) where he served as the leading petty officer and earned his ESWS qualification. 
His operational assignments include Sea Control Squadron (VS) 33, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 94, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), and USS Nimitz (CVN 68).

Mulhern’s shore assignments include Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department, Naval Air Station Mayport, Florida; NAVAIR Program Management Activity 265 (PMA-265) F/A-18 & EA-18G Program Office, Commander Naval Air Force, Atlantic (CNAL), NAVAIR Program Management Activity 273 (PMA-273) Undergraduate Flight Training Systems, and U.S. Fleet Forces Command N433 Branch Head, Aviation Programs and Policies.

He assumed his duties as the Commander Naval Air Force Atlantic’s Director of Aviation Material Readiness and Support Equipment, also known as the Force Maintenance Officer, N423 in October 2022.

He began serving as the deputy commander of the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training in November 2025.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various other personal, unit and service awards. He also earned his enlisted surface warfare specialist qualification.
