Commander Uries S. Anderson, a native of Houston, Texas, began his naval career in October 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and a master’s degree in Business Management. He was commissioned via the limited duty officer (LDO) program.
After attending AD “A” School at Naval Air Technical Training Center Millington, Tennessee, and F/A-18 familiarization school in Cecil Field, Florida, he reported for duty to Strike Fighter Squadron 192 (VFA 192) in Atsugi, Japan. During this tour he qualified as an F/A-18 plane captain and APU/engine turn operator and was meritoriously advanced to petty officer third class. His next tour was with the Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA 106) in Cecil Field, Florida, where he became fully qualified on the F/A-18 and performed as the power plants build/phase crew supervisor. He then returned to the “Tip of the Spear”, joining the Strike Fighter Squadron 27 (VFA 27) in Atsugi, Japan, where he was advanced twice, to second and first class petty officer. It was there that he was selected as Squadron (VFA-27), Airwing (CAG-5), and Battle Group (CARGRU5) Sailor of the Year for 2002. His follow-on assignment was to the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) where he served as the AD rating detailer. It was during this tour that he was selected to chief petty officer and subsequently selected for the LDO program.
Upon commission, his first tour was with the Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 26 (HSC 26) where he served as the detachment maintenance officer and maintenance material control officer. In June 2008 he transferred to Strike Fighter Squadron 106 (VFA 106), serving as the quality assurance officer and the maintenance material control officer for legacy Hornets. In June 2010 he transferred to Strike Fighter Squadron 211 (VFA 211) where he served as the assistant maintenance officer and the maintenance material control officer for Super Hornets. It was during this tour that he led the squadron to being selected as Secretary of Defense Phoenix Award recipients. Upon completion of this tour, he transferred to Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic, where he served as the power plants division officer and assistance maintenance officer. In 2015, he reported to Carrier Air Group Three (CVW 3), where he served as the Carrier Air Group maintenance officer. In 2018, he then reported to Strike Fighter Squadron 125 (VFA 125) to serve as the maintenance officer for the only Joint Strike Fighter fleet replacement squadron for the F-35C.
