The Center for Security Forces announced, on Nov. 22, that the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) board accredited the U.S. Navy's Master-at-Arms (MA) Apprenticeship or "A" School. 
 
The MA “A” School is a seven-week course of instruction designed to provide Sailors the skills needed to perform armed sentry, security reaction force, active shooter response, and tactical combat casualty care missions.
 
On their website, FLETA states accreditation enhances public confidence in integrity, professionalism, and accountability, provides assurance that an academic program has voluntarily submitted to a self-regulation process, and demonstrates compliance with a set of standards established by the law enforcement community.
 
"The body of standards that come with accreditation promotes the effective and efficient use of resources for federal law enforcement training," said Steve Kleintank, curriculum model manager for the Navy’s Master-at-Arms “A” School and Corrections course at the Center for Security Forces. 
 
Kleintank further shared that "accreditation fosters consistency in federal law enforcement training and ensures compliance with the accreditation process. All of which work together to instill public confidence in federal law enforcement."
 
Some additional benefits of accreditation are improved training quality, increased staff and management confidence, and building law enforcement alliances, according to FLETA.gov.
 
“Should graduates of the accredited course later choose to pursue a civilian law enforcement career, they can cite their Navy training that meets the standard of a nationally recognized law enforcement certifying body,” said Kleintank.
 
"To maintain accreditation, FLETA requires an annual status report and a reaccreditation assessment followed by FLETA board approval every five years," said Gerald Hadley, accreditation manager for the Center for Security Forces. "The process ensures our policies comply with the FLETA standards, standards we monitor for potential changes to ensure our policies meet or exceed."
 
The Center for Security provides specialized training to more than 20,000 students annually. It has 14 training locations across the United States and worldwide that carry the motto: "Where Training Breeds Confidence."
