Commander Nicole M. Scherer

Cmdr. Nicole Scherer is a native of Malvern, Pennsylvania. In 2007, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in history and received a commission through Naval Reserve Officers Training Corp (NROTC) at Marquette University. Following flight training in Pensacola, Florida, she designated as a naval aviator in 2009. She earned a Master of Arts in Science Writing from Johns Hopkins University in 2016.
 
Cmdr. Scherer reported to her initial sea tour with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light (HSL) 46 at NS Mayport, Florida flying the SH-60B Seahawk. During this tour she completed deployments aboard USS Anzio (CG 68) and USS Nitze (DDG 96) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
 
After completing the transition to the MH-60R Seahawk, Cmdr. Scherer reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) 1 at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. During this tour she served as
the Rotary Wing NATOPS/SAR officer, squadron Quality Assurance Officer, and Operational Test Director for the MQ-8C Fire Scout unmanned helicopter, earning her Air Vehicle Operator qualification and Defense Acquisition Level 1 Certification.
 
Following her Test and Evaluation tour she reported to Commander, Navy Region Japan (CNRJ) headquartered at Yokosuka, Japan, where she served as Flag Speech Writer and as the Special Advisor to the Regional Commander on military sexual assault and Sailor resilience.
 
Cmdr. Scherer reported to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 48 at NS Mayport, Florida for her Aviation Department Head tour, where she served as the Detachment ONE Officer in Charge and squadron Training Officer. Following her OIC tour, Cmdr. Scherer served as the Deputy Air Operations Officer for Navy Region Southeast. She has flown over 1,500 hours in manned and unmanned aircraft.
 
In March 2020, Cmdr. Scherer selected for Lateral Transfer to the Human Resources (HR) community.
 
She completed her HR Milestone billet as the LCSRON 2 N1 Department head, and transferred to Newport, RI as the Deputy Director for the HR Center of Excellence in July 2021.
Her personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals. Cmdr. Scherer earned her Professional in Human Resources certification in 2020 and screened for HR command in 2022.
