Scott Trulove entered the U.S. Air Force in 1981 after graduating from high school. He completed basic training and Medical Administrative Technical School at Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB), Texas and was assigned as a medical administrative specialist at Griffiss AFB, Rome, New York. He completed his Associate in Applied Sciences in healthcare management from the Community College of the Air Force, and Bachelor of Science in human resources management from the New School for Social Research in New York. Trulove commissioned into the U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps (MSC) in July 1989 and subsequently completed his master’s degree in operations management from the University of Arkansas in December 1995. As a naval MSC officer, Trulove served at Naval Hospital Millington, Naval Hospital Sigonella, Fleet Hospital Operations and Training Command, Naval Dental Center Camp Pendleton, and the Naval School of Health Sciences San Diego.
Trulove retired from active duty in August 2003 and began his civil service career in September 2003 as the director of Resources at the Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego. During this assignment he assisted in the establishment of the Navy’s first Trauma Training Program at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center and numerous financial analysis initiatives that focused on the cost of training. In November 2006 Trulove became the executive director of the Training Support Center (TSC) San Diego, where he was responsible for providing comprehensive training support to over 70,000 Sailors and 600 foreign military personnel in preparation for their service to the fleet. While at TSC, he completed the Department of Veterans Affairs Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program and earned a Master of Business Administration from Point Loma Nazarene University. Trulove became the executive director for the Naval Special Warfare Leadership Education and Development Command (NLEAD) in November 2020.
During his 36-year career, Trulove has received numerous awards, most notable being the Meritorious Civilian Service Award Medal, the Navy Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), the Meritorious Unit Commendation (2 awards), the National Defense Service Medal (one award), and the Armed Forces Service Medal.
