Carl Gerhard began serving at the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in January, 2017. A native of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1985 and spent over 30 years of both active enlisted and commissioned service. Following various assignments in the US and overseas, he was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2000 while serving as senior courses academic instructor at the U.S. Naval School of Music. Carl was selected and commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer in 2001, and served as Assistant Fleet Bandmaster, U.S. Fleet Forces Command (Norfolk, VA); Fleet Bandmaster, U.S. Seventh Fleet (Yokosuka, Japan); Director, Navy Band Northeast (Newport, RI); and as Executive Officer, U.S. Naval School of Music (Virginia Beach, VA). Following his retirement from the Navy in 2015, he served as a training facilitator for Leadership Solutions Associates, LLC, providing supervisory leadership and management training, specifically for Department of the Defense personnel. Carl also is an active freelance musician, conductor, and music educator. He actively tours, performs, and records with various musical organizations throughout New England and across the United States. He has earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Roger Williams University, and also holds the Navy’s Master Training Specialist designator. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards); Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards); Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (5 awards); Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) and various campaign and other service awards.
