Following commissioning, he qualified Navy Scuba Diver at the Naval Diving & Salvage Training Center in Panama City, Florida. He subsequently earned a Masters Degree in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania where he attended as recipient of an Admiral Grace Murray Hopper Fellowship.
