Mr. John Mohn

Mr. John Mohn, a native of Waldorf, Md., enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1984. Following graduation from the Naval Academy Preparatory in 1985, he entered the United States Naval Academy and graduated with distinction in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in systems engineering. He is also a 2001 distinguished graduate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a master’s in Business Administration.
 
At sea, Mohn served as part of initial manning crew and in various division officer assignments, while competing new construction, sea trials and initial predeployment training preparations aboard USS Springfield (SSN 761). As a department head, he served as engineer officer aboard USS Kamehameha (SSN 642), completing several four to six-month Western Pacific and Middle East deployments and a major shipyard maintenance period.
 
Ashore, Mohn served as submarine operations officer for Destroyer Squadron 14, emergency action officer at U.S. Strategic Command, operations officer at Nuclear Power Training Unit – Balston Spa, submarine afloat readiness and regional maintenance programing analyst for Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Fleet Readiness and Logistics (OPNAV N43), submarine operations officer and operational assessment branch deputy at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, director of the Naval Warfare department and director of Submarine Warfare Operations Research Division (SWORD) at the Nimitz Operational Intelligence Center, executive officer of Trident Training Facility Bangor, and as workforce development manager and fleet week coordinator for Navy Region Northwest. He retired from active duty in June 2017.
 
Mohn started his civilian career as special security officer for Submarine Group Nine in May 2018 and became executive director for Trident Training Facility Bangor in December 2021.
 
Mohn is the recipient of the Civilian Service Achievement Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6 awards) and various campaign and unit awards.
