Command Master Chief Steven Cosgrove hails from Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania and graduated from Pen Argyl High School. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1993 and attended Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois, followed by Fire Controlman "A" School. He is a graduate of the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course Class 138 and Senior Enlisted Academy Class 185.
His sea duty assignments include USS Curts (FFG 38); USS Gary (FFG 51); USS Lassen (DDG 82); USS Spruance (DDG 111); and Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71 deployed aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
His shore tours include service at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island; Surface Combat Systems Center in Wallops Island, Virginia; and most recently, Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific in Coronado, California.
His weapon systems specialties include Mark 92 MOD 2 Fire Control System, Harpoon Weapons System, Mark 92 MOD 6 Fire Control System, and Mark 34 Gun Weapon System.
In June 2020, he reported as the command master chief for Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) in Dahlgren, Virginia.
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
