Cmdr. Barry D. McCulloch, a native of Biloxi, Mississippi, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1989 and attended boot camp and interior communications electrician “A” school at Naval Training Station, San Diego. He earned his commission through the Limited Duty Officer program in July 2001 and later was selected for lateral transfer as an unrestricted line officer upon graduating from Saint Leo University in 2008, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management.
His enlisted assignments included serving on the pre-commissioning crew of USS Patriot (MCM 7) with following tours aboard USS Scout (MCM 8), USS Gladiator (MCM 11), USS Ardent (MCM 12) and USS Dextrous (MCM 13).
At sea as an officer, he served as the main propulsion assistant aboard USS Kauffman (FFG 59); damage control assistant aboard USS Trenton (LPD 14); chief engineer aboard USS Porter (DDG 78); material officer for Commander, Destroyer Squadron 28 aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69); and most recently, as executive officer of USS Normandy (CG 60).
His shore tour as an officer includes service as the production officer, repair officer, and operations officer for Assault Craft Unit 4 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
McCulloch reported as executive officer, AEGIS Training and Readiness Center, in February 2018.
His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign, unit and service awards.
