Master Chief Joanne Gibson enlisted in the Navy in March 1993. Following completion of boot camp at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida, she completed Cryptologic Technician (Collection) “A” school at Naval Technical Training Command Detachment Fort Devens, Massachusetts, with follow-on training at Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida.
Gibson is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy and designated a specialist in surface, aviation and information warfare. Additionally, she is designated a master training specialist.
Her earlier assignments include Naval Security Group Activity Fort Meade, Maryland, as a direct support operator; USS Boxer (LHD 4) as ship’s signals exploitation space (SSES) operator and supervisor; USS Chafee (DDG 90) as SSES, deck, operations leading chief petty officer; Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station as an instructor; Naval Security Group Activity Kunia and Navy Information Operations Command, Hawaii as development and exploitation cell lead; U.S. Fleet Forces Command in the intelligence directorate; and Navy Information Operations Command, Georgia as training department and national mission department leading chief petty officer. Gibson completed a total of five major deployments to the Western Pacific, Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Gibson’s command master chief tours include USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43) and her current command at Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station.
Her personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit decorations.
