Captain William J. Barich

Capt. Barich, a native of Anchorage, Alaska, was commissioned as an ensign through Officer Candidate School in 1998. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration (Management) from the University of Alaska Anchorage, and he graduated from the Naval Postgraduate School with a master’s degree in Business Administration (Finance).
 
At sea, Barich served as sales officer, cargo officer and hazardous material officer aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); supply officer aboard USS Robert G. Bradley (FFG 49), with the supply department earning the Blue “E” award for supply excellence; and assistant chief of staff for logistics (N41) for Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 7, where he planned and executed logistics support for the ESG and transiting amphibious readiness groups in support of theater operational plans, joint exercises and employments. He also had afloat supply program oversight and mentorship for nine forward-deployed naval forces ships, one helicopter squadron, and one naval beach unit.
 
His shore tours include service at the tactical, operational and strategic levels with a variety of units. He served as assistant aviation supply department officer, Electronic Attack Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet; lead flying hour programmer, U.S. Pacific Fleet; and joint logistics planner, U.S. Northern Command, where he participated in numerous Department of Defense response efforts, including the Deep Water Horizon oil spill and an earthquake disaster in Haiti. He was operations officer, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Global Logistics Support – Ammunition, and the lead on the Stakeholder Support Team, NAVSUP, where his team was responsible for the interface between NAVSUP and external stakeholders in resolving supply chain management challenges.
 
Barich completed a seven-month individual augmentee deployment to Afghanistan serving as the Task Force Cincinatus S-1/S-4 officer to the 23rd Chemical Battalion’s missions within Bagram and four additional provinces.
 
He reported as executive officer, Navy Supply Corps School in May 2018.
 
Barich is a qualified surface warfare supply corps officer and aviation supply corps officer. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal among various other unit and campaign awards. Barich received the 2003 Vice Adm. Robert F. Batchelder award for his contribution to supply readiness aboard USS Robert G. Bradley.
