Lieutenant Matthew D. McGill

Lt. McGill, a native of Winchester, Virginia, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 2004 as an equipment operator. After recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he attended Equipment Operator “A” School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was selected for the Limited Duty Officer Program in February 2015. He earned an associate degree in Liberal Arts from Saint Leo University in 2011.
 
His enlisted tours included Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5, Port Hueneme, California with deployments to Guam, Horn of Africa, and Afghanistan. He served with Naval Expeditionary Combat Command, Little Creek, Virginia as a training analyst monitoring fleet readiness training plans for subordinate commands and was selected as Junior Sailor of the Year for 2010 and 2011. At Bureau of Naval Personnel, Dallas, Texas, he performed duties as equipment manager, maintenance supervisor, remote detachment coordinator, and purchasing coordinator. As an instructor at Center for Seabees Facilities and Engineering Det. Fort Leonard Wood, he taught Equipment Operator “A” School for Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement (MTVR) dump truck, MTVR tractor, and rough terrain forklift operations.
 
As an officer, McGill’s tours include service with NMCB-11 as Det. Horn of Africa A6 during the 2016 deployment; embark officer in charge; travel officer in charge; platoon commander; and S35, Future Operations, deploying to Rota, Spain.
 
He is currently serving as officer in charge, Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Det. Sheppard Air Force Base.
 
McGill is qualified as a Seabee combat warfare officer, enlisted aviation warfare specialist, and a Master Training Specialist. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards) and multiple unit and other individual awards.
