Senior Chief Utilitiesman Gabriel V. Vazquez

Senior Chief Vazquez, a native of Kent, Washington, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1996. After attending basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois, he completed Utilitiesman (UT) “A” school at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He earned his associate and bachelor’s degrees in construction management and is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 196. He is qualified in Seabee combat and expeditionary warfare and as a Master Training Specialist.
His operational assignments include two tours with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5, Port Hueneme, California, first deploying to Okinawa, Japan; Puerto Rico; Andros Island; Bahamas; and Pohang, South Korea. On his second tour, he deployed to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan and also served as the homeport liaison chief while the battalion deployed to the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. During a tour with NMCB-4, he deployed to Okinawa, Japan as the air det. leading chief petty officer.
 
His shore tours include service as leading petty officer at the American Embassy Uruguay while assigned to Naval Support Unit State Department, D.C.; recruit division commander for nine divisions at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes; and Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe and Southwest Asia leading chief petty officer at Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, responsible for base projects and the maintenance of all structures and a pier where the U.S. 7th Fleet flag ship docked. He also served as UT school director and leading chief petty officer at Naval Construction Training Center, Port Hueneme.
 
Vazquez reported as the assistant officer in charge and senior enlisted leader for Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering Det. Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in April 2018.
 
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and Army Achievement Medal.
