Lt. Cmdr. Richard Escamilla, a native of Pittsburg, Texas, enlisted in the U.S. Navy August 1997 and was later commissioned through Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island. He graduated from Excelsior College in 2013 with a Master of Business Administration.
As an enlisted Sailor, his assignments were aboard USS Shreveport (LPD 12); at Center for Cryptology, Corry Station, Pensacola, Florida; aboard USS James E. Williams (DDG 95) and USS San Antonio (LPD 17); and at Electronic Warfare “C” School, Pensacola.
At sea, Escamilla served as a division officer and subsequently electrical officer aboard USS Carter Hall (LSD 50); training officer aboard USS Bainbridge (DDG 96); combat systems officer/department head aboard USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19); and for his second department head tour, N5, future operations, Commander, Amphibious Squadron (CPR) 8.
During his post-division officer shore tour, he served as an instructor for Center for Personal and Professional Development, Pensacola.
Escamilla reported as executive officer, Training Support Center Hampton Roads, January 2020.
His personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards) and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards). He is qualified as an officer of the deck, surface warfare officer, and tactical action officer.
