Master Chief Machinist's Mate Richard J. Moses

Senior Enlisted Leader 

Master Chief Moses entered the Navy in September 1996 and completed Basic Training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Ill. After completing Basic Enlisted Submarine School (BESS) and Auxiliary Pack in Bangor, Wash., he transferred to USS Alabama (SSBN 731) homeported in Bangor and was assigned to Engineering Department, Auxiliary Division where he earned his Enlisted Submarine Warfare pin and completed one deterrent patrol. 

In April of 2000, he transferred to USS Helena (SSN 725), homeported in San Diego, Calif., and was assigned to Engineering Department, Auxiliary Division where he was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and completed two Western Pacific Deployments and one Under Ice Exercise. In 2003 he transferred to Submarine Squadron Eleven Performance Monitoring Team where he was advanced to First Class Petty Officer. After a successful Shore Duty, he transferred to USS Asheville (SSN 758), homeported in San Diego, Calif., as the Auxiliary Division Leading Petty Officer where he completed one Western Pacific Deployment. 

In 2007, he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and was transferred to USS Albuquerque (SSN 706), homeported in Groton, Conn., as the Auxiliary Division Leading Chief Petty Officer. While onboard, he completed a transit of the Suez Canal, numerous missions vital to national security, and a deployment ending with a change of homeport to San Diego, Calif. In 2009, he transferred to Submarine Squadron Eleven, in San Diego, Calif., and served as the Squadron Auxiliaryman/Damage Control Assistant (DCA). During this time he completed qualifications for Chief of the Boat. 

In July 2012, he reported aboard USS Hampton (SSN 767) homeported in San Diego, Calif., as Chief of the Boat. While onboard, he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer and completed two extremely successful Western Pacific Deployments and ICEX 2014. In 2015, he transferred to Submarine Learning Center Det. in San Diego, Calif., as the Senior Enlisted Leader. 

Master Chief Moses is entitled to wear the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Battle ‘E’ Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (six awards), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Arctic Sea Service Ribbon, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (five awards).
