Command Master Chief Jason S. Avin

Command Master Chief Jason Avin, a native of New York, graduated from General Douglas MacArthur High School in 1993 and enlisted in the Navy in March 1996. He attended recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois, Electronics Technician nuclear field "A" School in Orlando, Florida, and then Communications "C" school at Naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. His academic achievements include completing his major in Workforce Education and Development from Southern Illinois University as well as Senior Enlisted Professional Military Education. He also completed the Chief of the Boat (COB)/Command Master Chief (CMC) course and graduated with honors from the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 174 Gray. He is qualified in submarine warfare. 

Avin’s sea duty assignments included USS Boston (SSN 703) for her final deployment, participating in UNITAS; USS Louisville (SSN 724); USS Charlotte (SSN 766), completing a western pacific deployment; USS Springfield (SSN 761); and USS Dallas (SSN 700) as the communications leading chief petty officer, completing a U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) deployment and shipyard availability. 

Ashore, Avin has served as a Master Training Specialist (MTS) at Naval Submarine School as the exterior communications system maintenance leading petty officer and command MTS coordinator; and Submarine Development Squadron (SUBDEVRON) 12 as the communications assistant. 

His CMC/COB assignments include COB for USS Annapolis (SSN 760) where he completed a U.S. European Command and USCENTCOM deployment and change of homeport to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Annapolis earned the 2014 SUBDEVRON 12 Battle "E" and the 2014 and 2015 Retention Excellence awards. He also served as the CMC of Submarine Squadron 12. 

He reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy in March 2019 as deputy director and assumed duties as director in May 2020. 

Avin's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), and various unit citations.
