Cmdr. Dawn Ricketts, a native of Fairfield, California, enlisted in the Navy in 1991. She has both a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego.
She served with Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing (CPRW) 1 and aboard USS Cape Cod (AD 43), and USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) prior to being selected for the Seaman to Admiral commissioning program. She was commissioned as an ensign in 2002.
Ricketts’ sea duty officer assignments include combat information center officer, USS Stethem (DDG 63), during the development and operational testing and evaluation of the Tactical Tomahawk Weapon System; training officer, USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), circumnavigating South America in support of Partnership of the Americas multi-national naval exercise; operations officer, USS Dewey (DDG 105),during the development and operational testing of the Standard Missile 6 to include the first ever at-sea firing; executive officer, mine countermeasure rotational crew, Crew CONFLICT, aboard USS Pioneer (MCM 9) and USS Ardent (MCM 12); commanding officer; USS Devastator (MCM 6) and USS Scout (MCM 8) where she completed two deployments, to include the heavy lift of four surface MCMs to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility; and executive officer, USS Anchorage (LPD 23) where she completed a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea in support of Operation Odyssey Resolve.
Ashore, Ricketts served as seamanship and navigation instructor and senior class advisor at Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, San Diego and most recently, exercise designer and surface warfare advanced tactical training MCM lead at Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center Mine Warfare Division. She reported as commanding officer, Mine Warfare Training Center (MWTC) in May 2019.
Ricketts’ awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards. She is also a recipient of the Arleigh Burke Leadership Award.
