Commander David R. Marino

Cmdr. David R. Marino, a native of Babylon, New York, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2002, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography. He subsequently became a meteorology and oceanography (METOC) officer.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College where he earned a Master of Arts in National Security Policy and Strategic Studies and completed Joint Military Professional Education (JPME) Phase II. He is also a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master of Science in Meteorology and Oceanography and completed JPME Phase I.
 
Operationally and ashore, he has served as officer in charge, Naval European METOC Detachment, Souda Bay, Greece; METOC watchstander and commander’s update briefer, U.S. Central Command J3 Joint Operations Center; flag lieutenant, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command; METOC officer aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72); METOC Mission Integration Team lead at Naval Information Forces; and executive officer of Naval Oceanography Antisubmarine Warfare Center, Yokosuka, Japan.  He was assigned to The Joint Staff, J-35 Deputy Director for Operations, where he initially served on the Secretary of Defense’s Orders Book team and then as executive assistant, J-3 Deputy Director for Regional Operations.
 
He has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He also has supported numerous naval and joint operations and exercises in the U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Central Command, and U.S. European Command areas of responsibility.
 
Marino currently serves as commanding officer, Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit Keesler, Mississippi.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and personal awards.
