Command Master Chief Jose M. Hernandez

Command Master Chief Hernandez, a native of Uvalde, Texas and 1996 graduate of Uvalde High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1997.  He is also a graduate of the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 170 Gray, and the Command Master Chief Course, Class 158. He is a qualified enlisted aviation warfare specialist, enlisted surface warfare specialist, enlisted information warfare specialist, and a master training specialist.

Hernandez’s sea duty assignments include USS George Washington (CVN 73), where he served as an arresting gear technician and maintenance support work center supervisor; and USS Nimitz (CVN 68), as the arresting gear leading chief petty officer and the aircraft launch and recover equipment maintenance control leading chief petty officer.  He also served aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) as the training department and V2 division leading chief petty officer; command master chief with the “Dusty Dogs” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 7; and command master chief aboard USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).

His shore assignments include Naval Recruiting District, San Diego; Naval Technical Training Center Lackland, where he served as leading chief petty officer for the U.S. Navy Corrections Specialist/Counselor “C” School and later reassigned as the leading chief petty officer for the U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms “A” School.

Hernandez assumed the duties and responsibilities as the command master chief of Naval Technical Training Center Lackland in February 2021.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various other personal and unit awards.
