Commander Richard Martinez

Cmdr. Richard Martinez, a native of Brooklyn, New York, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1990 under the delayed entry program.  Following recruit training, he attended Aviation Electronics Technician "A" School in Millington, Tennessee.  He was commissioned under the Limited Duty Officer program in March 2003.
 
His enlisted assignments include: Naval Air Station (NAS) Patuxent River Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) from 1992-1994, NAS Oceana AIMD Sea Operational Detachment from 1994-1998, Naval Air Maintenance Training Group Detachment Oceana from 1998-2000, and USS Enterprise (CVN 65) from 2001-2003. 
 
Following his commissioning, Martinez served with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 131 from 2003-2006.  During that tour he served as a division officer, material control officer (MCO), maintenance material control officer and quality assurance officer.  He then reported to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Norfolk, Virginia, where he served as the training officer from 2006-2010.  During that tour, he was ordered as an individual augmentee (IA) to Afghanistan from June 2007-September 2008.  There he was an embedded training team member, responsible for mentoring the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police.  Ten months later, he served as an IA to Bogota, Colombia.  There he served as the joint planning and training officer for the Caribbean.  He then received orders to USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) from 2010-2013, where he served as the Light Industrial Facility officer in charge and IM-3 division officer.  He then served as the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC-28) assistant maintenance officer during 2013-2015.  From HSC-28, he reported to USS Wasp (LHD 1) as the AIMD officer for an 11-month tour with follow-on orders as the officer in charge of Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (TOPGUN) maintenance detachment in Fallon, Nevada, from 2016-2019.  His last command was serving as the maintenance officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3.
 
Martinez currently serves as executive officer, CNATTU Jacksonville, Florida.
 
His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), Combat Action Ribbon and various unit and theater awards and citations.
