Lieutenant Commander Clement L. Smith

Lt. Cmdr. Clement L. Smith, a native of Birmingham, Alabama, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1996. He attained a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Northwood University. He was commissioned via Officer Candidate School in July 2007.  He also has a Master of Business Administration from Trident University.
 
His enlisted tours were with Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) Oceana and AIMD New Orleans as a radar technician.
 
His operational officer assignments include Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 154 in Lemoore, California, where he successfully performed material control officer (MCO), quality assurance officer, and assistant maintenance officer (AMO) duties while deploying aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Ronald Regan (CVN 76).  As MCO and maintenance material control officer for Patrol Squadron (VP) 8, he won two “Golden Wrench” awards and was selected as Commander Patrol Reconnaissance Wing (CTF) 11’s “Captain Virgil Lemmon” award recipient.  With Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 72, he took the squadron on its first-ever carrier deployment aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75).  He also served as AMO and MCO aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), winning the 2019 Secretary of Defense Phoenix Award.
 
Ashore, he served as avionics division officer and MCO for Fleet Readiness Center Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida, where he received his professional aviation maintenance officer qualification.  At Naval Air Systems Command, he was operations officer and assistant program manager for logistics in the Advanced Tactical Aircraft Protection Systems Program Office (PMA-272). 
 
Smith currently serves as the officer in charge, Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment Whiting Field.
